Glass

Bored with your dinner plates? I can help! Wedding favors? Let's discuss! Past projects include seventy-five stained glass leaves for a wedding, matching fused glass cufflinks for a party of groomsmen, and serving dishes created to match wedding invitations and room decor.

Sandblasted Floral Stripe Dish

Commissioned for a wedding, this piece blends the bride's New York style with stylized floral napkins that would make up the rest of the wedding gift. The 15x11" dish is composed of stripes of black and white glass with a gray layer sandwiched in the middle. The black glass on the top is covered with a food-safe iridescent coating.

I scanned the napkins, used a combination of graphics programs to clean up the picture of the cloth enough that I could cut a vinyl stencil of it, then sandblasted off most the iridescent coating, leaving just the floral pattern. A second mid-range slump firing shaped the flat piece of glass and returned some gloss to the sandblasted areas, leaving a lovely tone-on-tone pattern where I blasted the design into the white stripes.
