This plate makes use of the chemical reactions between silver and glasses that contain sulfur and selenium. The base is gold iridized french vanilla glass, a lovely cream color with an iridescent sheen. Small pieces of glass in a variety of sizes burst outward from a central globe. Circles of silver foil revolve around the burst with purple-ochre halos. The natural color of the globe and the burst is the light blue-green seen when the glass crosses onto a silver circle. When it touches the french vanilla base, it turns a darker green-blue that cannot be achieved without this chemical reaction. Because the base glass is iridized, the network of green-blue caverns are sparkly on the bottom. This piece is food-safe, and hand washing is recommended.Diameter: 10 inches (25 cm)Handmade in the United States with glass produced in Oregon.
